North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Networking Event: July 17th, 2013

Fantastic networking event (again) put on by the North Van Chamber of Commerce on Grouse Mountain today, sponsored by Digby Leigh. Members were able to arrive early and visit the sites, including the bear habitat, wind turbine, raptor show and more. Thanks to Francine Legault for joining me as we explored, and even rode the Peak Chair with my fear of heights! — at Grouse Mountain Resort.

Do Your Research!

We can't tell you how many times we've been contact by people who are looking to replace their current event planner.  The most common things we've heard?  We're calling you because...
  • "It doesn't seem that our planner has done very much work so far, although they were quick and efficient in cashing our deposit."
  • "Our planner isn't returning our calls, and now we're getting worried as our event is right around the corner."
  • "We're only three months out from our event, and our planner has not secured our venue.  Should we be worried?"
The key things we tell all potential clients is this, "Do your research!"

Good Things to Know:
  • Our first hour with our clients for a one on one consultation is complimentary.  After that, yes we do begin to charge and always take a non-refundable deposit.  Our time does have a price tag after the first hour, as working on one project takes us away from other paid projects, hence the charge.  Although event planning is our pleasure, it's also our business.
  • If your event planner is unavailable to you, replace them.  All telephone calls and emails should be returned within a 24-hour period.
  • We always recommend speaking to 2-3 planners before securing one.  Compatibility is critical for your event, and you want to work with someone whom you enjoy working with; has a proven track record; completes tasks and reports in to you in a timely fashion; and who is working their hardest to make your event a success - period.  Your event should be their priority no matter what else is going on in their lives.
  • Check their recommendations and testimonials, and follow up if possible.  As a full-service event company, we're proud of the work we've done, and therefore display the positive things that our clients have to say about us on LinkedIn and on our web site.
  • Ask to see pictures of their events.  It will be easy to tell if the quality that you wish to have for your event is the same level of the quality of events they produce.
